Actinogen Limited – Float/IPO expected to close 27 September 2007
Actinogen Limited has developed a series of rapid and specifically directed screening tests directed at searching for antibiotics and anti-fungal agents. These screening tests focus on identifying isolates, which may lead to the development of products capable of commercial applications in medical, agricultural and veterinary fields.
The Company has isolated 2 micro-organisms (isolates) which produce antibiotic activity against “Superbug” Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE). The potential of these bioactive compounds is enormous.
The Company has established an arrangement with the PathWest laboratories at the QE II Medical Centre at Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital in Perth to utilise laboratories and equipment for carrying out its research into the detection and isolation of the desired actinomycetes and their bioactive compounds.
In addition to the specific activities described above there are numerous potential commercial applications for the bioactive compounds that may be identified by the Company through selective screening techniques. Those applications include other antibiotics, as well as anti– fungal, anti-viral and anti-cancer agents.
It is anticipated that the Company’s screening techniques may be extended to identifying micro-organisms that have application for bio-remedial control of environmental and mining pollutants. Examples include micro-organisms that may digest various sources of cellulose, domestic wastes, toxic chemicals in polluted ground or water, plastics and the treatment of salt affected soils.
